My Books
I’ve made my living as a writer since 1985, working on and contributing to The Sunday and Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Observer as well as World of Interiors, Vogue and gardening titles that include Gardens Illustrated and the RHS Journal, The Garden. Since 1996 I’ve also enjoyed working on books, which now include a popular guide to London gardening, two collections of my gardening columns and two general gardening titles as well as seven books with the interior designer Tricia Guild.
You’ll find all of my books – on gardening, interiors and greener living – listed on the following pages, complete with information, excerpts from reviews and links to Amazon to help you to order them new or second-hand.
Additionally I maintain two blogs:
Off the Rails: From Railway Carriage to Eco-Home and
Gardening Against the Odds: Celebrating gardens and gardening in unlikely places.

Due out at the beginning of May 2009, Homemade: Gorgeous Things to make with Love
with Ros Badger. As people who have always made things at home - Ros is a great knitter and crocheter, and I love making things from the garden, whether that's planting up pots as presents, cooking chutney and jams or festooning the house with leaves and flowers - we've collected some of what we think are our best ideas into a book of around 80 projects, all of which have all been beautifully photographed.
'The Wonderful Weekend Book: Reclaiming Life's Simple Pleasures'(John Murray £12.99) is about reclaiming the weekend to re-charge our batteries and relationships through enjoying the simple pleasures in life. A book packed with ideas to help restore the balance in our lives and reconnect us to the seasons.
